Etymology of THOGOTOVIRUSES
The word "Thogotoviruses" is derived from the name of the Thogoto virus, which is the prototype virus of the Thogotovirus genus. The Thogoto virus was first isolated in Thogoto Forest in Kenya in 1968, from samples of ticks and mosquitoes. Therefore, the genus Thogotovirus was named after the location where it was discovered.
