Etymology of KHOISAN LANGUAGE
The word Khoisan is derived from two different language groups: Khoi refers to the pastoralist herders of Southern Africa, while San refers to the hunter-gatherer people of the region. These two groups, the Khoi and the San, share some linguistic and genetic similarities. The term Khoisan was coined by German linguist Wilhelm Bleek in the 19th century to classify a group of languages spoken by these people.
The word language itself comes from the Latin word lingua, meaning tongue or speech.
