This gas or vapor emits ultraviolet radiation when ionized by the electric current, which energizes the phosphor coating on the inside of the tube. The phosphor coating then absorbs the ultraviolet radiation and re-emits visible light.
Fluorescent lighting is known for its high energy efficiency and long lifespan compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.
