Aerteriversion is a medical term that refers to the involuntary turning outward or external deviation of an eye. It involves the misalignment of the eye in a horizontal plane, causing it to deviate away from the center or towards the side. This condition is a form of strabismus, which is an eye disorder characterized by the improper alignment of the eyes.
Aerteriversion can occur in one eye (unilateral) or in both eyes (bilateral), leading to a variety of symptoms such as double vision, reduced depth perception, and visual disturbances. It commonly arises due to an imbalance in the extraocular muscles responsible for eye movement and alignment.
The causes of aerteriversion can be diverse and may include underlying conditions like cerebellar disorders, ocular muscle trauma, neurologic abnormalities, or congenital abnormalities. In some cases, it may also be a result of misaligned or poorly fitted glasses.
Diagnosing aerteriversion involves a comprehensive eye examination, which may include visual acuity tests, measurement of the angle of deviation, and assessing the eye's ability to move in different directions. Treatment for aerteriversion often includes correcting the underlying cause, if possible, as well as the use of eyeglasses, eye patching, prism lenses, or eye exercises to improve eye alignment and coordination.
In severe cases where conservative measures prove ineffective, surgical intervention may be recommended to correct the misalignment. The aim of treatment is to ensure proper eye alignment, reduce symptoms, and improve visual function.
