United Democratic Front (India)
United Democratic Front (UDF) is an alliance of political parties of Kerala state in India created by the prominent Congress party leader Shri. K. Karunakaran in the 1970's.[1] Since its formation, the coalition has sustained itself on the support from different social, caste and religious groups as a powerful bloc to take on CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front(LDF). This alliance is led by the Indian National Congress party in the state of Kerala.
UDF is at present the ruling coalition in the state of Kerala after winning majority in the 2011, Kerala Assembly Elections. UDF defeated the CPI(M) led coalition (LDF) by a close margin of 73 to 67 seats and came back to power again under the leadership of Oommen Chandy.[2]
