Town Higher Secondary School

Town Higher Secondary School is a school in Kumbakonam, a town in the Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
It was started as a primary school on 14 April 1864. The first head master was M Martin, a retired head constable.[1] It was built by the English scholar Martin. And later Sir Thambisamy Udayar gave his banana farm of around 5 acres to develop it into a big school. It is one of the best schools in Thanjavur district.
Notable alumni
- Srinivasa Ramanujan, the great Indian mathematician, was a student of this school.
- Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman, famous mridangam player. He received Padma Vibhushan and doctorate awards.
- Shiv Nadar, the founder chairman of HCL Technologies.[2]
